Mable Scarf
Coming December 2026
The Mable scarf features a cable-like stitch pattern using only a simple 6-stitch repeat of knit and purl stitches - no cables!
The beauty of this design is that the scarf looks as good on the wrong side as it does on the right side. You get two scarves in one.
An I-cord edge, knit continuously while working the scarf, adds a neat finishing touch to the design.
The pattern includes fully written instructions and charts for each section of the scarf, you can choose either.

One size which can easily be modified.
You can make the scarf:
Longer or shorter, by knitting the straight section as long as you like.
Wider, by repeating the increases (and decreases) more times as indicated.
-
1 skein or 400 m / 437 yards of fingering weight yarn (or more if you want to make a wider or longer scarf).
My sample was knit using 1 skein of Lain’amourée Athéna Fingering in colourway Bisous d’Automne (400 m / 437 yards per 100 g).
Note: You can use a different weight yarn instead but keep in mind that this will impact your gauge and therefore the final measurements of your scarf.
Important: The gauge swatch will use about 9 g of yarn, if you use the recommended yarn.
-
34 sts x 38 rows = 10 cm / 4’’ in pattern repeat on 3 mm (US 2.5) needles after blocking.
Gauge swatch instructions are included in the pattern.
-
3 mm needles (US 2.5).
Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
